in The Dean Berlin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Interior designer Rachael Gowdridge has transformed a 19th-century building in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/berlin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Berlin<\/a> into The Dean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/hotels\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hotel<\/a>, combining historic features with bespoke details and vintage objects to lend the spaces an eclectic feel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rachaelgowdridge.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gowdridge<\/a> used the existing features of the former residential building in Berlin&#8217;s Charlottenburg district as the foundation for her layered design, which introduces surprising materials and bold pops of colour to add character to the spaces.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2300341 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/the-dean-berlin-hotel-Rachael-Gowdridge_dezeen_2364_col_9-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Reception of The Dean hotel in Berlin by Rachael Gowdridge\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Rachael Gowdridge has completed The Dean in Berlin<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This hotel isn&#8217;t about a single statement,&#8221; said Gowdridge. &#8220;It&#8217;s about contrast, restraint and moments that make you pause.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wanted to avoid the generic hotel feel and instead create spaces that pose questions \u2013 places that reveal themselves slowly and reward attention.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2300345 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/the-dean-berlin-hotel-Rachael-Gowdridge_dezeen_2364_col_12-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Lounge in hotel by Rachael Gowdridge\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>An intimate library can be accessed via the hotel&#8217;s lobby<\/p>\n<p>The property is the German debut for lifestyle hotel brand <a href=\"https:\/\/thedeanhotels.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Dean<\/a>, with interiors that balance\u00a0raw materiality and original surfaces against clean-lined contemporary interventions such as expressive joinery and sharply defined thresholds.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the design decisions were made on site as existing layers of the building were stripped back, allowing the architecture to guide the choice of materials and finishes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2300347 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/the-dean-berlin-hotel-Rachael-Gowdridge_dezeen_2364_col_14-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Cafe of The Dean hotel \" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>The library is stocked with eclectic design titles sourced from a local bookshop<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The scale of The Dean gave us freedom,&#8221;
