She also reassured Danes that the government would work to manage the situation during the election campaign, holding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/europe\/2026\/02\/11\/europeans-divided-on-direct-putin-talks-at-key-leader-meetings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/europe\/2026\/02\/11\/europeans-divided-on-direct-putin-talks-at-key-leader-meetings\/\">international meetings<\/a> when necessary \u201cto safeguard the interests of the kingdom\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-14-JOI5FQ3LPFBMFCJJQHXZT5DAIA\">Denmark&#8217;s government is an unusual cross-partisan coalition \u2060of Ms Frederiksen&#8217;s Social Democrats, the centre-right Liberal Party led by Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, and the Moderates, led by Lars Lokke Rasmussen, the Foreign Minister who has twice served as prime minister.<\/p>\n<p>No clear challenger<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-16-UEIZORHHNNF5LB2VHWC5M37YPM\">Created in 2022 \u200bas a crisis government, the coalition stands to lose its majority, according to opinion polls, as parties reposition themselves along more traditional left-right lines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-17-PGBDRUOYNRCQTF6BA6ZYJWHDSY\">Ms Frederiksen first came to power in 2019 by steering her party towards a tougher stance on immigration to reclaim working-class voters who had drifted to the right. She looks set to secure another term in office, with no obvious challenger to form a governing majority.
