It’s only Tuttle’s second year out of a five-year term. Discovery eventually trumped (sorry) Ted Sarandos and Netflix. Has the sky fallen? The industry is in panic mode, as this merger poses existential threats not only to film and content production, but potentially to cable network news ahead of the midterm elections. (Warner Bros. A week that only tangentially brought us out of the awards season space, only to bring us back in as we inevitably preview the Producers Guild Awards and the SAG’s Actor Awards, both happening this weekend. Beyond the noisy headlines, if the BAFTAs indicated anything for the guild awards ahead, it’s that “Sinners” remains very strong thanks to an unexpected BAFTA win for Wunmi Mosaku. “One Battle After Another” supporting actor Sean Penn also took the BAFTA — that could repeat at the Actor Awards, where “Sentimental Value” projected Oscar frontrunner Stellan Skarsgård is not a nominee.

Listen to the episode below or on your preferred podcast platform.

The beast — being, of course, the entertainment news cycle — never sleeps.
