BERLIN, Feb 28 (Reuters) – The German government has placed the German units of Russia’s Rosneft under \u200ca trusteeship, the economy ministry said on \u200cSaturday, as Berlin seeks to establish long-term control over the German \u200bassets of the Russian oil group.<\/p>\n
The assets, which include a stake in the PCK Schwedt refinery, were placed in the German government’s trusteeship in 2022 after Moscow’s \u200cinvasion of Ukraine shook \u2060Germany’s decades-long energy ties with Russia.<\/p>\n
However, that trusteeship has to be renewed every six \u2060months on grounds of preserving energy security, creating uncertainty mainly over the PCK Schwedt refinery, which supplies most \u200bof the \u200bfuel to Berlin.<\/p>\n
In its \u200battempt to find a \u200cstructural solution, the latest move puts Rosneft Deutschland (RDG) and RN Refining & Marketing (RNRM) under the control of Germany’s Bundesnetzagentur energy regulator, said the ministry.<\/p>\n
The regulator will assume authority over the companies\u2019 stakes in the PCK Schwedt, \u200cMiRO Karlsruhe and Bayernoil refineries.<\/p>\n
The \u200bEuropean Commission had earlier this month \u200bapproved the new \u200btrusteeship structure.<\/p>\n
Rosneft Deutschland accounts for around 13% \u200cof Germany\u2019s oil-processing capacity and \u200bis one \u200bof the country\u2019s largest refining companies.<\/p>\n
“Ensuring security of supply remains the primary objective for all measures \u200btaken by the \u200cGerman government in relation to Rosneft Deutschland,” said \u200bthe ministry in a statement.<\/p>\n
