COPENHAGEN, March 2 (Reuters) – Denmark has entered \u200can agreement on strategic nuclear deterrence with France, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen \u200bsaid on Monday.<\/p>\n

French President Emmanuel \u200bMacron said on Monday<\/a> that France will \u2060expand its nuclear arsenal and \u200bstrengthen its deterrent with an unprecedented \u200bcooperation with European partners, in what he called a major change in nuclear doctrine.<\/p>\n

“Stronger \u200bcooperation will contribute to strengthening Europe’s \u200bdeterrence capability. Unfortunately, this is necessary because \u200cthe \u2060military threat from Russia is expected to increase in the coming years,” Frederiksen told journalists.<\/p>\n

“We would like to \u200bemphasize today \u200bthat \u2060strategic cooperation will complement, and in no way replace, \u200bthe cooperation we have in \u200bthe \u2060area of deterrence within NATO,” she added.<\/p>\n

Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said \u2060the \u200bstrategic cooperation does not \u200binclude having nuclear weapons on Danish territory.<\/p>\n
