{"id":31077,"date":"2026-03-02T20:13:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T20:13:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/31077\/"},"modified":"2026-03-02T20:13:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T20:13:11","slug":"midlands-pharma-facility-to-receive-e432m-in-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/31077\/","title":{"rendered":"Midlands Pharma Facility To Receive \u20ac432m In Funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/69a557f333f85.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            Novo Nordisk employs over 260 people in Athlone.\n        <\/p>\n<p>A Midlands pharmaceutical company is investing over \u20ac400 million for its manufacturing facility.<\/p>\n<p>Novo Nordisk&#8217;s Athlone base is to receive \u20ac432 million in funding which will allow Ireland to serve as a hub for servicing markets outside the US.<\/p>\n<p>The investment will support the upgrade and retrofit of the facility, as well as enhancing Novo Nordisk\u2019s capacity to manufacture oral products.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The plant currently employs over 260 employees, with construction set to create up to 600 jobs and is hoping to be finalised from the end of 2027 through 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the announcement in Athlone,\u00a0Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke\u00a0said: \u201cToday\u2019s investment announcement is a vote of confidence in Athlone, the Midlands and the skilled workforce we have worked hard to develop.<\/p>\n<p>It will help drive innovation, create highly skilled jobs and further strengthen Ireland\u2019s pharmaceutical ecosystem. Ireland hosts 9 of the top 10 global pharma companies, producing a significant portion of the world&#8217;s most innovative drugs, solidifying our country\u2019s role as a central hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I commend Novo Nordisk on this milestone investment, which underpins Ireland\u2019s robust competitiveness in the life sciences sector and is a testimony to the role the Midlands plays in pharma innovation in Ireland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith\u00a0the\u00a0investment in the\u00a0Athlone facility, Novo Nordisk is\u00a0expanding its production capacities for oral products, which will enable us to meet both current and future\u00a0global\u00a0demand\u00a0outside the US,\u201d added\u00a0Kasper Bodker Mejlvang, EVP CMC and Product Supply, Novo Nordisk.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis investment, a historic milestone for Novo Nordisk in Ireland, marks our continued commitment to Athlone, Ireland and our highly skilled employees while allowing\u00a0us to\u00a0make a difference for millions of people living with\u00a0serious chronic diseases.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/69a56757ee97d.jpg\" style=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Michael Lohan, CEO, IDA\u00a0concluded by saying: \u2018\u2019This significant investment by Novo Nordisk demonstrates the strength of Ireland\u2019s value proposition as location for innovation and underlines the importance of regional balance in driving sustainable economic growth.
