{"id":31881,"date":"2026-03-03T16:57:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T16:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/31881\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T16:57:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T16:57:11","slug":"denmark-bans-drone-flights-as-eu-leaders-prepare-to-descend-on-copenhagen-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/31881\/","title":{"rendered":"Denmark bans drone flights as EU leaders prepare to descend on Copenhagen \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In addition, a German frigate \u2014 the FSG Hamburg \u2014 has arrived in Copenhagen to assist with airspace surveillance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/denmark-closes-airports-after-wave-drone-sightings-across-country\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Denmark has been plagued by drones<\/a> of unidentified origin for the last week, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/europe-hybrid-war-danish-prime-minister-says-russia-drones\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen declaring that Europe is \u201cat hybrid war.\u201d<\/a> Many signs point to Russian involvement.<\/p>\n<p>The Danish Defense Ministry confirmed that drones were spotted at several of its premises overnight on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are currently in a difficult security situation,\u201d said Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen in a statement announcing the drone ban. \u201cWe must ensure the best possible working conditions for the Armed Forces and the Police when they are responsible for security during the EU summit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russian drones and aircraft, respectively, have also violated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/after-testing-drone-defenses-russia-tested-nato-disinformation-response\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Polish<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/russian-fighter-jets-breach-estonian-airspace-near-tallinn\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Estonian<\/a> airspace in recent weeks. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/poland-closes-airspace-after-russian-attack-on-kyiv\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Poland scrambled jets<\/a> and closed some of its airspace Sunday during an attack by Russia on neighboring Ukraine, in anticipation of further incursions that did not occur.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/GettyImages-2234283903-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7235964\"  \/>\u201cWe cannot accept that foreign drones create uncertainty and disruption in society as we have experienced recently,\u201d Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen said in a statement. | Martin Bertrand and Hans Lucas\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Companies will be able to apply for exemptions from the ban \u201cin very special cases\u201d by contacting the Transport Ministry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trm.dk\/nyheder\/2025\/luftrummet-lukkes-for-al-civil-droneflyvning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a statement on its website<\/a> said.
