An explosion struck the entrance of the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway<\/a>, early Sunday, causing minor damage but no reported injuries, Norwegian police said as authorities launched an investigation into what officials believe may have been a deliberate act.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A spokesman for the country\u2019s police force said during a news conference<\/a> that the attack on the U.S. Embassy<\/a> could be related to the \u201ccurrent security situation,\u201d signaling investigators have not ruled out a link to the war in Iran.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s natural to see this in the context of the current security situation and that this could be an attack deliberately targeting the U.S. Embassy,\u201d police spokesman Frode Larsen said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police said they received multiple reports of a loud blast around 1 a.m. local time near the embassy compound in western Oslo. Officers arrived shortly afterward and confirmed the explosion had occurred near the entrance of the embassy\u2019s consular section.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Larsen said investigators believe the explosion may have been caused by a device placed near the entrance, though officials said it remains early in the investigation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking to a local broadcast station<\/a>, Larsen said terrorism<\/a> is \u201cone of the hypotheses\u201d but that investigators are \u201cnot completely stuck on that.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Justice Minister Astri Aas-Hansen condemned the incident, calling it \u201can unacceptable incident that we are taking very seriously,\u201d and said investigators had deployed \u201cconsiderable resources\u201d to determine what happened.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police later said no additional explosive devices were found, and the area around the embassy was deemed safe for residents and passersby.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The explosion comes amid heightened global tensions and increased security concerns surrounding American diplomatic hubs as Iran<\/a> continues hurling retaliatory attacks in the Middle East<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Norwegian authorities have said it was too early to determine whether the incident was connected to the U.S.\u2019s role in the Middle East.\u00a0<\/p>\n
