{"id":36555,"date":"2026-03-10T02:33:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T02:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/36555\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T02:33:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T02:33:17","slug":"14-migrants-dead-after-boat-collides-with-turkish-coast-guard-vessel-off-antalya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/36555\/","title":{"rendered":"14 migrants dead after boat collides with Turkish coast guard vessel off Antalya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/migrant-boat.jpeg\" data-caption=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"395\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- alt=\"\" title=\"migrant boat\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/migrant-boat-696x395.jpeg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"395\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/migrant-boat-696x395.jpeg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"migrant boat\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fourteen people died after a boat carrying irregular migrants collided with a Turkish coast guard vessel off the coast of Antalya in southern Turkey early Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turkishminute.com\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.turkishminute.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Turkish Minute<\/a> reported, citing the DHA news agency.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred off Finike, a district on Turkey\u2019s Mediterranean coast, after the vessel carrying migrants failed to comply with a warning to stop from coast guard units, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.sg.gov.tr\/search-and-rescue-operations-initiated-off-the-coast-of-antalya-are-still-ongoing-09-03-2026-\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/en.sg.gov.tr\/search-and-rescue-operations-initiated-off-the-coast-of-antalya-are-still-ongoing-09-03-2026-\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a> from the Coast Guard Command.<\/p>\n<p>Coast guard teams detected the boat at around 2:30 a.m. and dispatched two patrol vessels to intercept the high-speed fiberglass craft.<\/p>\n<p>At about 5:00 a.m., the boat ignored orders to stop, changed course and struck a coast guard vessel, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>A number of migrants on board fell into the water after the collision. Fourteen died, while 15 fled the scene in a rubber boat, reached the shore and were later detained, the coast guard said.<\/p>\n<p>The Coast Guard Command dispatched a helicopter, a ship and three additional vessels to the area to conduct search and rescue operations.<\/p>\n<p>Antalya Governor Hulusi \u015eahin said later on Monday that the boat was carrying irregular migrants from Afghanistan, including women and children.<\/p>\n<p>Six suspects were taken into custody in connection with the incident, the coast guard said. An investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Fatal incidents involving migrant boats are common in the eastern Mediterranean, one of the world\u2019s busiest and deadliest migration routes. Migrants from Afghanistan, Syria and other countries frequently attempt the crossing from Turkey to nearby Greek islands in small, overcrowded boats operated by smuggling networks.<\/p>\n<p>Shipwrecks and collisions occur regularly due to poor weather, overloaded vessels and attempts to evade patrols by Turkish or Greek authorities.
