An unprecedented seismic hum was detected worldwide. Satellites have now unveiled the cause: resonant fjord oscillations.<\/p>\n
A 25.5 million cubic metre rockslide, driven by climate change-induced glacial melt, plunged into the 540-metre-deep fjord, spawning a 200-metre tsunami wave. This initiated prolonged water sloshing, akin to a vast bathtub, with the fjord’s narrow confines amplifying the effect.
Credit: National Geographic<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"In September 2023, a colossal landslide in Greenland’s Dickson Fjord triggered a megatsunami, causing the entire planet to…\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":37373,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[5],"tags":[21447,15017,57,21446,14479,21444,21445],"class_list":["post-37372","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-greenland","tag-crustal-heartbeat","tag-dickson-fjord","tag-greenland","tag-megatsunami","tag-melting-glaciers","tag-seismic-risk","tag-warming-climate"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@dk\/116207934944794711","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37372","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=37372"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37372\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/37373"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=37372"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=37372"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=37372"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
