{"id":37410,"date":"2026-03-11T02:50:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T02:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/37410\/"},"modified":"2026-03-11T02:50:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T02:50:18","slug":"us-embassy-in-oslo-hit-by-explosion-newsweek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/37410\/","title":{"rendered":"US Embassy\u00a0In\u00a0Oslo Hit\u00a0By\u00a0Explosion &#8211; Newsweek"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">The US embassy in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/oslo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oslo<\/a> has been hit by an explosion which caused minor damage but no injuries, according to Norwegian police.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion\u00a0near\u00a0the\u00a0mission,\u00a0in the\u00a0Morgedalsvegen\u00a0district of Oslo, about four miles outside\u00a0the city center\u00a0in the west of the Norwegian capital around 1 a.m. Sunday with smoke seen coming from the site of the blast.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">The Oslo police department told CNN that it was working with the\u00a0embassy\u00a0and there were no initial reports of injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Michael\u00a0Dellemyr, who is leading the police response,\u00a0told Norwegian media\u00a0the explosion was at the public entrance to the building.\u00a0Dellemyr\u00a0told local television that police had an idea of the cause and that &#8220;it appears to us that this is an act carried out by someone.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">In a statement to Norwegian broadcaster NRK, Minister of Justice Astri Aas-Hansen\u00a0described\u00a0it as &#8220;an unacceptable incident that is taken very seriously,&#8221; according to a translation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Investigators have been examining the scene, while dogs, drones, and helicopters were involved in the search for the perpetrators, according to Norwegian police.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">Police have called for information from the public, in particular anyone who might have seen anything in the area between midnight and 2 a.m. Sebastian\u00a0Toerstad, 18, a high school student who drove past the embassy at the time of the incident told Reuters there was thick smoke on the street and some damage to the entrance of the mission.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">A search for\u00a0the perpetrators is\u00a0ongoing\u00a0but no further explosive devices have been found in the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">The incident comes at a time of heightened security for US embassies and consulates following the bombing campaign by the U.S. and Israel against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/iran\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iran<\/a>, although it is not yet known whether the blast on Sunday was linked to events in the Middle East.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_blockParagraph__I2kr4\">The U.S. has pulled out staff from its missions across the Middle East as Iran steps up its strikes against American interests in the region in retaliation for Operation Epic Fury launched by President Donald Trump.
