A scheme which will see a historic property repaired has taken a big step forward.<\/p>\n

West Norfolk Council has granted listed building consent for the Greenland Fishery, on Bridge Street in Lynn, to have its roof and chimney stacks restored.<\/p>\n

This is part of a bid to see the \u201ccontinual use\u201d of the property, which was once a place where fishermen who caught whales and seals in Greenland would gather.<\/a><\/p>\n

Documents say there will be a \u201cprogramme of repair, conservation and limited alteration works\u201d, with ongoing decay to be \u201carrested\u201d and fire safety measures improved.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese works would sustain historic fabric and support the long-term conservation of the building\u2019s architectural and historic significance,\u201d a statement from Historic England said.<\/p>\n

The Lynn Civic Society also voiced its support for the scheme,which has been submitted by musician Stevie Wishart.<\/p>\n

A report from borough council planning officers said: \u201cIt is considered that the scheme meets national and local guidance and policy and this application for listed building consent is therefore recommended for approval.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Wishart hopes to convert the Greenland Fishery into an \u201cinspirational place\u201d for musicians and composers to gather.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A scheme which will see a historic property repaired has taken a big step forward.
