The arrivals terminal will complement the airport\u2019s newly completed departure terminal, enabling annual capacity to reach up to 10.6 million travelers.<\/p>\n<p>The design draws inspiration from Lithuanian heritage, incorporating traditional patterns and cultural motifs into a contemporary form. A <a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.com\/news\/tag\/71523\/modular\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">modular<\/a> geometry based on the rhombus\u2014an important shape in Baltic folklore\u2014forms the basis of the design.<\/p>\n<p>The layout and scale of the new terminal are shaped by the airport\u2019s existing buildings. Terminal 1, a historic structure, remains central to a unified ensemble that will include the new arrival and existing departure terminals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.gumlet.io\/uploads\/f7\/f78fdd71a5bf030abaf1aca2746e9d05.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;enlarge=true&amp;w=1028\" class=\"floatbox\" data-size=\"1028x578\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/f78fdd71a5bf030abaf1aca2746e9d05.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Aligned with the Vilnius Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, the terminal will promote seamless connections for travelers. It is also part of a broader <a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.com\/news\/tag\/766906\/masterplan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">masterplan<\/a> to transform the central Airport Plaza into a multi-modal <a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.com\/news\/tag\/752154\/transport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">transport<\/a> hub, integrating a high-speed rail station, regional and local trains, buses, taxis, bike lanes, and pedestrian routes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.gumlet.io\/uploads\/3b\/3b8552a56380f35a92314638b39ab803.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;enlarge=true&amp;w=1028\" class=\"floatbox\" data-size=\"1028x578\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/3b8552a56380f35a92314638b39ab803.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Inside, the terminal takes cues from Lithuanian *sodai*\u2014delicate straw ornaments made from grain stalks and shaped in triangular geometries. Traditionally associated with well-being and festivity, *sodai* serve as a symbolic and aesthetic influence throughout the design.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.gumlet.io\/uploads\/3c\/3ca99c19ea13de5c07509ebb30278f47.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;enlarge=true&amp;w=1028\" class=\"floatbox\" data-size=\"1028x601\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/3ca99c19ea13de5c07509ebb30278f47.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pleated roof, made of locally sourced <a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.com\/news\/tag\/282\/timber\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">timber<\/a>, aims to evoke the feeling of being immersed within a *sodai* garden. This modular roofing system is designed for adaptability, allowing the terminal to accommodate evolving technologies and passenger needs. Rhomboid and triangular skylights bring in natural light and accentuate the terminal\u2019s structural rhythm.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.gumlet.io\/uploads\/ab\/abf7eecb506d1d98ce0bc11355a43d0b.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;enlarge=true&amp;w=1028\" class=\"floatbox\" data-size=\"1028x578\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/abf7eecb506d1d98ce0bc11355a43d0b.jpg\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.gumlet.io\/uploads\/27\/2743253bd863e2ab07d3f730dbe994be.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;enlarge=true&amp;w=1028\" class=\"floatbox\" data-size=\"1028x578\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/2743253bd863e2ab07d3f730dbe994be.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Approximately 139,931 square feet of <a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.com\/news\/tag\/954273\/solar-panels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">solar panels<\/a> will generate on-site renewable energy from the terminal\u2019s roof and adjacent structures. The development will also include stormwater management, rainwater harvesting, and a greywater recycling system that uses natural filtration and storage for reuse.<\/p>\n<p>The arrivals terminal is a key element in Vilnius\u2019 larger masterplan to enhance Lithuania\u2019s regional and international connectivity over the coming decades.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archinect.gumlet.io\/uploads\/bc\/bcf64c9605eb611a025980393bc00ecd.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;enlarge=true&amp;w=1028\" class=\"floatbox\" data-size=\"1028x578\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/bcf64c9605eb611a025980393bc00ecd.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The design presents a mature architectural solution for a public infrastructure project of this scale,\u201d said Laura Kairien\u0117, Vilnius City Chief Executive Officer. \u201cIt boldly steps into the future but maintains respect for its location and the environment.
