{"id":38033,"date":"2026-03-11T19:07:05","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T19:07:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/38033\/"},"modified":"2026-03-11T19:07:05","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T19:07:05","slug":"dutch-court-scraps-cap-on-number-of-flights-at-amsterdam-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/38033\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutch court scraps cap on number of flights at Amsterdam airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">AMSTERDAM, March 11 (Reuters) &#8211; The Dutch Supreme Court on Wednesday scrapped a government decision \u200cto limit the number of flights at \u200cAmsterdam&#8217;s Schiphol airport, one of Europe&#8217;s busiest hubs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The court said \u200bthe 2024 decision to limit the number of flights to 478,000 per year, made in an effort to cut noise pollution, had not been \u200cproperly motivated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The government \u2060said the judgment underscored the need for new regulations it is developing \u2060to strengthen the legal basis of its air-traffic policies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Airlines had appealed the government&#8217;s decision as they \u200bsaid it \u200bwent too far, while \u200bclimate activists and \u200cpeople living near the airport had appealed for more restrictive action.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The court said the government decision had failed to take into account that different airplanes produce different levels of noise, thereby setting \u200can inappropriate general cap on \u200bthe number of flights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It \u200bsaid it was \u200balso unclear that the installed cap \u200cwould in fact lead to \u200bthe intended \u200breduction in noise pollution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The court did allow a reduction of nighttime flights, as none of \u200bthe parties \u200chad appealed that part of the government&#8217;s \u200bdecision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">(Reporting by Bart Meijer.
