Today, we have news about a leaked PlayStation-themed Lego set, a look at some awful guides built using AI, and we hear from a former God of War writer who says the sex mini-games should return in the remake. It’s the latest edition of Morning Checkpoint, Kotaku‘s daily roundup of gaming news, rumors, and culture. And before we go any further, I saw this image of Donkey Kong without fur today, and it made me sad. Now I share it with you because I don’t want to be alone in my suffering. Enjoy!

God of War sex mini-games were “largely worked on by women”

As reported by Eurogamer, God of War Ragnarök writer Alanah Pearce recently said in a livestream that the controversial and infamous sex scene mini-games in the older God of War games were “largely worked on by women” and should return in the previously announced remakes. She worked with one of the women who helped develop the older games and the sex scenes. According to Pearce, the dev was “very proud of it.”

“In fact, when you walk into, I think it’s Aphrodite’s chamber, this was designed—again, including a group of women—to look like a labia. Like, it’s literally designed to be evocative of a vagina. And the women were the ones who did that,” claimed Pearce. “When you look at it, it makes sense, but I feel like a lot of people didn’t notice that.”

Pearce says that the God of War sex mini-games should be included in the remakes, adding that while the scenes are “a little silly,” they still “belong” in the games. She also doesn’t find them “disrespectful to women” and instead feels that they tell you a lot about who Kratos is as a character and a person at that point in the franchise. Kotaku’s own Kenneth Shepard agrees.

Lego OG PlayStation Console Set Leaks

Lego and Sony are supposedly working on a PlayStation 1 Lego set, according to Lego leaker lego_minecraft_goat on Instagram. According to the insider, the PS1 set will cost $160 and will include 1,911 pieces. The set is reportedly arriving in December.

Fortnite’s original mode will finally be free next month

Today, Fortnite is a popular battle royale game (as well as a rhythm game, a racing game, a Lego-themed survival game, and more). But that wasn’t always the plan. It originally launched in Early Access as a survival crafting game built around loot and fighting off waves of zombies. When the battle royale mode blew up in 2017, the original game was rebranded as Save the World and has seen updates here and there. Now, this part of Fortnite is finally going free-to-play in April.

Amazon is flooded with AI-generated guideslop

AI-generated slop is infecting and ruining more and more of our world. That includes video game guides, which are still a thing sold on Amazon. However, as reported by Aftermath, many of these guides for games like Resident Evil Requiem and Pokopia are AI-generated and filled with incorrect information and missing details.

People who have ordered these physical guides report that they often contain no images and are just allegedly AI-generated or plagiarized text. In some instances, the guidebooks reportedly stop abruptly because the AI ran out of information due to embargos preventing sites from posting info about a game past a certain point. Welcome to the future, it sucks so much.

ICYMI:

Watch this:

Hi there, it’s me, Zack, your tired but still kicking Kotaku writer in charge of handling Morning Checkpoint…

[6050
7969,21845,4248,6051,21846
0":"post-38237","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-lego","8":"tag-fortnite","9":"tag-god-of-war","10":"tag-lego","11":"tag-lego-group","12":"tag-morning-checkpoint
["GET
