On Tuesday, around 450 employees marched in a demonstration from IAV’s headquarters on Carnotstraße to the IG Metall Education Center. With banners, chants, and speeches, they made clear: without certainty about the future, protests will continue on the streets.

Around 450 employees took part in the midday march, which began at IAV’s Berlin headquarters and passed through Berlin-Moabit to the IG Metall Education Center on Gotzkowskystraße. The demonstration concluded with a joint rally. The employees’ message is clear: without certainty about the future, protests will continue on the streets. Last week, employees had already mobilized with a protest action against the planned chaotic restructuring.

In addition to Berlin-based staff, works councils from other IAV locations in Germany also joined the action. They came to Berlin specifically to show solidarity with their colleagues on site.

Background: Uncertainty Over the Site’s Future

The demonstration is directly linked to ongoing negotiations over nearly three months between IG Metall, the works council, and company management regarding the strategic and personnel future of the company. Despite seven rounds of talks, there is still no convincing overall plan and no binding commitments regarding the jobs that are meant to be preserved under the planned reduction program.

The conflict began with the company’s announcement to cut around 1,500 positions nationwide in 2026. Approximately 600 jobs were already eliminated in 2024 – at the time with the promise that this would put the company back on a stable economic footing.

Many employees now feel this promise has been broken. At the Berlin headquarters in particular, concern is growing that the site could be weakened in the long term or even face closure.

Employees Demand Clear Outlook

Employees are therefore calling for a transparent staffing and needs plan, as well as binding assurances to protect the remaining jobs. IG Metall emphasizes that further restructuring must not happen blindly, but should be part of a viable plan for the company’s future.

03/11/2026 | The conflict over the future of the Berlin site of the automotive engineering company IAV is…

[99
112,21827,21829,190,21825,13817,21826,21830,21824,21828
0":"post-38354","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-berlin","8":"tag-berlin","9":"tag-betriebsratswahlen","10":"tag-bildung","11":"tag-germany","12":"tag-geschaftsstelle","13":"tag-ig-metall","14":"tag-igm","15":"tag-jan-otto","16":"tag-metall","17":"tag-tarif
["GET
