Antonio Costa extends invitations to all EU leaders for the March summit in Brussels, where Ukraine support, Middle East tensions, and energy security will top the agenda.<\/p>\n
The President of the European Council, Ant\u00f3nio Costa, sent official invitation letters to the leaders of the 27 EU member states to participate in its upcoming summit, to be held on 19-20 March in Brussels.<\/p>\n
The European Council\u2019s press service said this, citing a Ukrinform correspondent.<\/p>\n
At the beginning of our discussion on Ukraine we will listen to President Zelensky. We will reaffirm our unwavering support for Ukraine, which continues to defend itself from Russian aggression and seeks a just and lasting peace<\/p>\n

He stressed that it is extremely important to step up pressure on Russia until it begins meaningful peace talks.<\/p>\n
Costa also noted that the military escalation in the Middle East is causing global instability, and its consequences are already being felt in Europe.<\/p>\n
Summit plan and expectations<\/p>\n
Leaders are expected to discuss the situation in Iran and the Middle East, as well as the EU\u2019s response to geopolitical and economic consequences, notably regarding energy security and energy prices.<\/p>\n
Together we must identify the tools we need to mobilize to ensure timely, coordinated and effective response that protects our citizens and our companies, while working toward de-escalation and regional stability<\/p>\n

In addition, the head of the European Council stressed that leaders should focus on a strategic agenda for competitiveness and the importance of the EU\u2019s multiannual budget for 2028-2034.<\/p>\n
\u00abWe need to have an honest discussion about how we can align our ambitions with the appropriate level of funding\u00bb, \u2013 said the head of the European Council.<\/p>\n
European leaders will also consider the troubling situation in Lebanon, Gaza, and the West Bank of the Jordan River.<\/p>\n
For discussion during the working lunch, United Nations Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres has been invited \u2013 they will discuss the worsening international situation and the EU\u2019s actions to defend multilateralism.<\/p>\n
They also plan to discuss migration policy as one of the EU\u2019s key priorities, considering the current events in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
Despite the numerous important topics, my goal is to hold our meeting in one day, if our discussions allow it<\/p>\n

At the start of the meeting, there will be the traditional exchange of views with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, after which a working lunch will take place.<\/p>\n
In addition, the head of the European Council invited to participate in the conversation the President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde and the President of the Eurogroup Kyriakos Pierrakakis, so that they could share their economic analysis within the inclusive format of the EU summit.<\/p>\n
The European Parliament underscores the need for a swift opening of negotiating clusters with Ukraine and calls on the Hungarian government to refrain from blocking talks on EU enlargement, as delays pose strategic risks to the continent\u2019s security.<\/p>\n
The EU is preparing responses to migration challenges as part of a broader strategy for security and stability in the world.<\/p>\n
