Harley Ransom lashed out at another pub customer<\/p>\n

A thug smashed a bottle on an innocent punter’s head after he was exposed as someone who does not know his geography.<\/p>\n

Harley Ransom “exploded into violence<\/a>” after he was corrected on a “trivial comment” about Amsterdam not being a country. After being apprehended by police, it was revealed he had already racked up a slew of previous conditions and was charged with wounding with intent.<\/p>\n

Now, the 29-year-old has been sent back to jail after the presiding judge sentenced him to four years in prison for his crimes<\/a>. He was also slapped with a seven-year-long restraining order, as one supporter had to leave the court in tears upon hearing the sentence.<\/p>\n

The incident took place at the Glass Horse pub in St Helens last April<\/p>\n

In the incident, according to the Liverpool Echo<\/a>, the attack had taken place in the Glass Horse pub in St. Helens, Merseyside on April 17, 2025. Liverpool Crown Court heard on Friday (February 6), that Jake Devine had met up with friends at the pub to catch a football game that was being shown.<\/p>\n

Defendant Ransom was also said to be at the bar at a nearby table, being joined by his girlfriend. During the match, Ransom was heard asking:” Did you see the England v Amsterdam match?”<\/p>\n

Prosecutor Sarah Egan then explained that Devine had quickly interjected to say: “Do you know Amsterdam is a city?” This quick response appeared to rile Ransom who proceeded to grab a bottle of Kopparberg cider and smash it into Devine’s forehead.<\/p>\n

After carrying out the assault, the defendant and his girlfriend soon ran out of the pub, while Devine was taken to Aintree Hospital. Doctors later confirmed Devine had suffered a 5cm laceration to his eyebrow, which had cut all the way down to his facial muscles, requiring stitches and being left with a permanent scar.<\/p>\n

In a victim impact statement read out in court on his behalf, Devine said: “I try to hide the scar with caps or hats almost every time I leave the house. The scar and emotional effects continue to effect my quality of my life; I hope the hurt that has been caused is fully recognised.”<\/p>\n

During the hearing, it was revealed that Ransom had already earned a total of 11 different convictions from 18 different offences, seven of which related to assaults. One convicted involved him punching a woman while she was holding a baby, whilst others included stabbings to the legs and arms.<\/p>\n

Defending Ransom, Paul Lewis KC, said: “He knows that immediate custody is the only option for your honour today. The question begins with what type of sentence he may be subjected to.”<\/p>\n

Ransom would plead guilty to wounding with intent, being sentenced to a total of four years in prison as a result of the attack. He was also hit with a seven-year restraining order, as presiding Judge Stuart Driver KC described footage of the incident as “unpleasant”.<\/p>\n

“In mitigation, you have had problems in your life and you pleaded guilty at the first opportunity,” he added. “I have had to consider whether you should be categorised as a dangerous offender; it is very, very close.”<\/p>\n
