Amtrak has completed major station improvements in Camden and Denmark aimed at enhancing accessibility and the overall passenger experience for travelers in South Carolina.<\/p>\n
The upgrades were completed at Camden Station and the Denmark Railway Depot, both of which are served twice daily by Amtrak\u2019s Floridian route.<\/p>\n
Amtrak officials say the improvements are part of a broader effort to modernize stations and ensure they are accessible to all travelers.<\/p>\n
\u201cEnsuring our stations are accessible to every customer remains a top priority, and we\u2019re actively advancing that goal through renovation, repair, and upgrade projects here in South Carolina and across our National Network,\u201d said Amtrak Vice President of Accessibility David Handera. \u201cThe station stop is a critical link in the overall rail travel journey, and our aim is for every station to offer a welcoming and positive experience for all customers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Camden station improvements<\/p>\n
The Camden station project included a $3.5 million investment and several upgrades designed to improve safety and accessibility, including:<\/p>\n
A new 600-foot concrete boarding platform built eight inches above the rail for improved accessibility<\/p>\n
Accessible pathways connecting the platform and station building<\/p>\n
Sloped walkways and safety barriers<\/p>\n
Energy-efficient LED lighting for full platform illumination<\/p>\n
Detectable warning surfaces and updated signage<\/p>\n
Local leaders welcomed the improvements to the station.<\/p>\n

Denmark station improvements<\/p>\n
Amtrak also completed $2.3 million in upgrades at the Denmark station.<\/p>\n
Improvements include:<\/p>\n
A 280-foot concrete boarding platform built eight inches above the rail<\/p>\n
Accessible routes between the platform and the station building<\/p>\n
Sloped walkways and safety barriers<\/p>\n
Full LED lighting along the platform<\/p>\n
Detectable warning surfaces and updated signage<\/p>\n
Officials in Denmark say the improvements will help preserve an important transportation link for the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis station has served travelers here for generations, and with these improvements it will continue to welcome passengers and connect our community to destinations up and down the East Coast for years to come,\u201d said Denmark Mayor Harold Johnson.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe improvements at the Denmark Amtrak Station represent more than just upgrades to a facility; they reflect a continued commitment to providing safe, reliable, and accessible transportation for the people of Denmark and the surrounding region,\u201d said Denmark City Administrator Barbara Williams.<\/p>\n
Amtrak says the station work is part of its broader ADA Stations Program, which aims to bring all Amtrak-responsible station components into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act by 2029.<\/p>\n
