Danish renewable energy giant Orsted A\/S (OTC:<\/a>DNNGY<\/a>) has initiated legal proceedings against the Trump administration for suspending\u00a0its wind\u00a0project.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the company stated that it is contesting the U.S. government\u2019s\u00a0decision to halt its Revolution\u00a0Wind project, located approximately\u00a015 miles south of the\u00a0Rhode Island coast.<\/p>\n

Orsted is seeking a court injunction to counteract the suspension order, which it claims is causing \u201csubstantial harm\u201d to the project.<\/p>\n

Orsted\u2019s stock, listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen, saw a rise of over 4% during the European trading session on Friday, following the announcement of the legal action.<\/p>\n

\u201cRevolution\u00a0Wind has spent and committed\u00a0billions of dollars in reliance\u00a0upon, and has met the\u00a0requests of, a thorough review\u00a0process,\u201d Orsted stated. The company also stated that Revolution Wind is nearing completion at about 87%, with most offshore foundations installed and 58 of 65 turbines in place. The project is on track to begin delivering affordable power in 2026 and has supported thousands of U.S. jobs, including over 1,000 union roles accounting for 2 million union work hours.<\/p>\n

Revolution Wind is a\u00a0joint venture between Orsted and\u00a0Global Infrastructure Partners\u2018 Skyborn Renewables, with both companies having already invested around $5 billion in the project.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration, known for its pro-fossil fuel <\/a>stance,\u00a0suspended\u00a0the leases for five major\u00a0offshore wind projects, including Revolution\u00a0Wind, on December 22. This was attributed to national security concerns raised by the Pentagon. The decision came as a significant setback for offshore wind developers, with President Donald Trump previously criticizing wind turbines as unsightly and a detriment to the economy and environment.<\/p>\n

This decision drew criticism from industry and labor leaders. Senate Minority Leader\u00a0Chuck Schumer\u00a0(D-N.Y.) condemned the move<\/a>, stating that it jeopardized high-paying union jobs and hindered the nation\u2019s clean energy progress.<\/p>\n
