Five developed proposals for a new museum<\/a> of architecture and design in Helsinki, Finland have been unveiled for a final round of public feedback.<\/p>\n

Scheduled to open in 2030, thenew museumwill be a 10,050-square-metre building on the waterfront in Helsinki\u2019s South Harbour. It will merge the Museum of Finnish Architecture and the Design Museum Helsinki.<\/p>\n

An international design competition<\/a> for the new museum attracted 624 entries from architect-led teams across the world.<\/p>\n

The five anonymous designs were shortlisted in December and have been developed over the past six months for the final stage of the competition.<\/p>\n

Kaarina Gould, CEO of the Foundation for the Finnish Museum of Architecture and Design, said: “Finland has a strong tradition of anonymous architectural competitions, which allows the jury to focus entirely on the content of the proposals.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

“It will be truly exciting to see and hear what the people of Helsinki \u2014 and anyone interested in the new museum \u2014 think of the final submissions.”<\/p>\n

Members of the public can submit their comments on the proposals until 31 July here<\/a>. <\/p>\n

A summary of public feedback will then be shared with the competition jury before a winner is announced on 11 September.<\/p>\n

Housing more than 900,000 artefacts, the new museum will explore the history of design<\/a> and architecture in Finland and the Nordic region.<\/p>\n

It will also includespaces for events and conferences, as well as a design library and a waterfront restaurant<\/p>\n

“Design and architecture are such fundamental parts of Finnish identity that this competition<\/a> is about much more than a building,” Gould said. <\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a long-term investment in our cultural heritage and shared future. <\/p>\n

“Even during construction, the project will create jobs and drive economic growth, and once open in 2030, the museum<\/a> will become a key attraction for Helsinki and Finland.”<\/p>\n
