It was built eight inches above top of rail. It improves access for passengers with disabilities and families with small children.

Don’t miss…Ontario Northland Newmarket Subdivision purchase backs

Also, the project included accessible paths of travel to and from the station building. In addition, it added sloped accessible walkways, safety barriers, energy efficient LED lighting providing full platform illumination, detectable warning surfaces and new signage.

Meanwhile, the $2.3 million construction project at Denmark Railway Depot included a new 280-foot concrete boarding platform. At the same time, it was built eight inches above top of rail. It improves accessibility for passengers with disabilities and families with small children.

Separately, the work included accessible routes between the platform and station building. For example, it added sloped accessible walkways and safety barriers. Still, it also included full coverage LED platform lighting, detectable warning surfaces and updated signage.

ADA compliance and station accessibility upgrades

According to Amtrak, the ADA Stations Program is currently advancing 134 station designs and 66 station construction projects. It is part of Amtrak’s ongoing commitment to provide accessibility. The goal is 100% ADA compliance completion at Amtrak-responsible station components by 2029.

Meanwhile, funding for that work comes from Congress through the Federal Railroad Administration.

Amtrak said 19 stations across its network were brought into compliance with the ADA from Sept. 30, 2024, to Sept. 30, 2025. In addition, another 50 stations are targeted for completion in the next year. The forecasted investment is $311 million.

News on railway transport, industry, and railway technologies from Railway Supply that you might have missed:

Find the latest news of the railway industry in Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and the rest of the world on our page on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, read Railway Supply magazine online.
Place your ads on webportal and in Railway Supply magazine.
