For the second round of our Europe Initiative, which aims to strengthen transatlantic relations between Europe and the United States, our delegation of 36 members traveled to Warsaw.<\/p>\n

Highlights of the two-day trip included a visit to the No\u017cyk Synagogue and a meeting with Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich, where we discussed the Jewish community in Warsaw, the politics of remembrance, and transatlantic relations. Another highlight was the session \u201cGrowth, Technology & Innovation: The CEE Business Landscape\u201d at Meta in Warsaw, focusing on EU competitiveness and regulatory simplification and how make it real. The program also featured a reception at the German Embassy hosted by Deputy Head of Mission Robert Rohde, with Micha\u0142 Baranowski, Undersecretary of State at the Polish Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. In addition, we held strategy sessions with the Centre for International Relations and the Atlantic Council on European security. One of the key discussions focused on \u201cDefending Europe With(out) the US: Lessons Learned from the Polish EU Council Presidency,\u201d featuring Ma\u0142gorzata Bonikowska, President of the Centre for International Relations, and Aleksandra Uznanska-Wisniewska, Member of the Sejm and Deputy Chair of the NATO Subcommittee.<\/p>\n

Among others, my highlights included the exchange with Rabbi Schudrich, the presentation of the Meta CEE business landscape and the subsequent conversation with Warsaw\u2019s Mayor, Rafa\u0142 Trzaskowski. I especially appreciated the opportunity to gain insights from these different perspectives. Overall, I was impressed by the dynamism of Warsaw and the opportunities currently emerging in Poland.\u00a0 Thomas Steinbrueck, Chief Executive Brand & Strategy Officer.<\/p>\n

Learning from\u00a0Chief Rabbi Schudrich\u00a0about the process and challenges of rebuilding a Jewish community after the Nazi crimes and communist period. Former Ambassador Janusz Reiter explaining to us the \u201cdefining character\u201d the Polish-German relationship has for Poland. It\u2019s an asymmetric relationship where Poles lack trust and Germans understanding. Germany must treat Poland as an equal. I believe our trip made a small, but meaningful contribution to that.
