The prosecutor in the rape trial of Marius Borg H\u00f8iby on Monday called the son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit a “man with an aggression problem” in closing arguments.<\/p>\n
The trial, which began in early February, has shocked Norway and drawn global media attention.<\/p>\n
H\u00f8iby, 29, faces 40 charges, including four counts of rape, drug offences and domestic violence.<\/p>\n
He is accused of sexually abusing several women, committing some of the most serious offences while the victims were asleep or unconscious and filming them during the incidents.<\/p>\n
H\u00f8iby has denied the sexual offence charges but admitted to some of the other allegations.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Sturla Henriksb\u00f8 said the defendant “takes whatever he wants and is not necessarily concerned with asking the girl sitting on his lap at an after-party whether she\u2019s OK with him touching her.”<\/p>\n
H\u00f8iby is “not a monster,” Henriksb\u00f8 added, countering H\u00f8iby’s claim in court that he has been treated as such by the public.<\/p>\n
But the crown princess’s son is a “man with an aggression problem, who is jealous and can lose control, especially when intoxicated,” Henriksb\u00f8 argued. “He can lose his temper, fly into a rage, shout. Throw mobile phones and knives. Punch holes in the wall.”<\/p>\n
The trial of Crown Prince Haakon’s stepson sparked a major scandal in Norway, and coincided with scrutiny of Mette-Marit over her past association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n
The proceedings have included testimony from numerous witnesses and a review of more than 800 text messages and video recordings.<\/p>\n
