{"id":43495,"date":"2026-03-19T09:50:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T09:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/43495\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T09:50:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T09:50:07","slug":"denmark-deployed-troops-fearing-us-invasion-of-greenland-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/43495\/","title":{"rendered":"Denmark deployed troops fearing US invasion of Greenland: media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Denmark and its allies deployed troops to Greenland in January fearing a US invasion as tensions spiked over President Donald Trump\u2019s bid to annex it, Danish broadcaster DR said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>DR said it had seen a military operations order dated January 13, which served as the basis for the deployment of Danish forces in the autonomous Danish territory.<\/p>\n<p>The document described an operation organising the defence of Greenland, immediately after the US operation in Venezuela to oust president Nicolas Maduro.<\/p>\n<p>ALSO READ | <a href=\"https:\/\/witness.co.za\/news\/2025\/05\/22\/city-bmx-prodigy-8-seeks-help-to-attend-global-showdown-in-denmark\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">City BMX prodigy (8) seeks help to attend global showdown in Denmark<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Trump says all the time that he wants to buy Greenland, and then we see what happens in Venezuela \u2014 we had to take all possible scenarios seriously,\u201d a Danish military official speaking on condition of anonymity told DR.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe official machinery of the United States is not working the way it used to,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Under cover of a NATO exercise dubbed \u201cArctic Endurance\u201d, a Danish regiment and elite forces were sent to Greenland, as well as French alpine troops and German and Swedish soldiers, DR said.<\/p>\n<p>It was a real deployment and not an exercise, another source told DR.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no possible ambiguity,\u201d he said.
