{"id":43966,"date":"2026-03-19T20:27:20","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T20:27:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/43966\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T20:27:20","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T20:27:20","slug":"5-arrested-in-turkey-over-alleged-gulen-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/43966\/","title":{"rendered":"5 arrested in Turkey over alleged G\u00fclen links"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Arrest.jpg\" data-caption=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"435\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Arrest-696x435.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Arrest\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A Turkish court on Thursday ordered the arrest of five people in Edirne province over alleged links to the faith-based G\u00fclen movement, the state-run TRT Haber\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.trthaber.com\/haber\/turkiye\/yurt-disina-kacmaya-calisirken-yakalanan-5-feto-suphelisi-tutuklandi-938325.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Police stopped two vehicles on the Edirne-Ke\u015fan road and detained eight people, including six accused of links to the G\u00fclen movement who were allegedly preparing to leave the country, along with the drivers.<\/p>\n<p>The court ordered the arrest of five people identified only by the initials B.A., Z.S., H.G., A.G. and G.G., while the drivers and one of the detainees were released under judicial supervision.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities did not provide further details about the evidence cited in the arrests.<\/p>\n<p>Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan has targeted followers of the G\u00fclen movement, inspired by the late Muslim cleric Fethullah G\u00fclen, since corruption investigations in December 2013 implicated him as well as some members of his family and inner circle.<\/p>\n<p>He dismissed the probes as a G\u00fclenist conspiracy and later designated the movement a terrorist organization in May 2016, intensifying a sweeping crackdown after a coup attempt in July of the same year that he accused G\u00fclen of orchestrating. The movement denies involvement in the coup attempt or any terrorist activity.<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest figures from the justice ministry, more than 126,000 people have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/basin.adalet.gov.tr\/adalet-bakani-yilmaz-tunc-canli-yayinda-sorulari-yanitladi_114893\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">convicted<\/a>\u00a0of alleged links to the movement since 2016, with 11,085 still in prison.
