The Kenyan Embassy in Berlin has clarified that voter registration for Kenyans living in Germany has not yet begun, addressing confusion caused by information circulating online.<\/p>\n
\nIn a statement released on Friday, March 20, 2026, the Embassy urged citizens in Germany to wait for official announcements before attempting to register.<\/p>\n
\nKenyans in Germany had been reaching out to the Embassy after seeing information on social media and diaspora platforms suggesting that voter registration was already underway.<\/p>\n
\nThe Embassy emphasised that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is yet to initiate the registration exercise at the mission.<\/p>\n
\n“The Embassy wishes to clarify that the IEBC has yet to initiate the voter registration exercise at the Embassy. We will communicate officially via our website and social media platforms once the details are confirmed by the IEBC and the State Department for Diaspora Affairs,\u201d the Embassy stated.<\/p>\n
\nThis clarification comes as the IEBC continues its continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise in Kenya in preparation for the 2027 General Election, which allows eligible citizens to register, transfer registration, or update their voter details at constituency offices.<\/p>\n
\nHowever, voter registration for the diaspora is conducted only when officially scheduled by the IEBC and announced in advance at embassies and consulates.<\/p>\n
\nIEBC says that for one to be eligible to register they must be a Kenyan citizen of 18 years and above, and possess a valid Kenyan Identity Card (ID) or valid Kenyan Passport.<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, calls from politicians and civic leaders underscore the importance of expanding voter registration efforts, with particular focus on registering youth and under\u2011registered groups in 2026 to boost participation ahead of the elections.<\/p>\n
\nThe Embassy\u2019s notice highlights the growing interest among Kenyans in the diaspora in participating in national elections and underscores the critical role of diplomatic missions in providing accurate information.<\/p>\n
