AMSTERDAM\u00a0– An assistant coach at the Greater Amsterdam School District was fired by the school’s board of education on Wednesday, two days after he was charged with sexually assaulting a student at another school district.<\/p>\n

The school board’s vote to remove Jared\u00a0T. Baldizon, 27, of Albany, from his role as an assistant coach for the varsity boys’ lacrosse team\u00a0was effective immediately, according to\u00a0board documents<\/a>. Prior to the board’s vote, Baldizon had been placed on administrative leave.<\/p>\n

Baldizon was charged Monday with felony third-degree rape and third-degree criminal sexual act. He’s\u00a0accused of sexually assaulting a student while he worked at the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District, State Police said.<\/p>\n

Baldizon allegedly had sex with the child, who was under the age of 17, in the spring of 2024 in Amsterdam after meeting them while working as a teacher’s assistant at the school, troopers said.\u00a0Baldizon was also an assistant coach for the district’s varsity indoor track and field team at the time.<\/p>\n

The information was reported to investigators earlier this month, State Police said.\u00a0The district was then informed by State Police of\u00a0Baldizon’s arrest, a statement from Broadalbin-Perth said.<\/p>\n

“The safety and protection of our students is, and always will be, our first priority,” Superintendent Stephen Tomlinson said in the statement. “We are deeply concerned by these allegations and are cooperating fully with the New York State Police in their investigation.”<\/p>\n

As of Wednesday, Baldizon still worked for the state.<\/p>\n

“I can confirm that Jared Baldizon is employed at the Thruway Authority, but we decline to discuss personnel matters,” Thruway spokeswoman Jennifer Givner said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Baldizon left Broadalbin-Perth that fall. He also worked as a substitute for the Greater Amsterdam School District at Lynch Middle School from September to December 2024, State Police said.<\/p>\n

“Based on information currently available from law enforcement, the alleged conduct is reported to be connected to the individual’s prior employment in another school district and we have not been informed of any allegations involving Amsterdam students,” Greater Amsterdam School District Superintendent Richard\u00a0Ruberti told ABC News10. “The safety and well-being of our students remains our highest priority.”<\/p>\n

Baldizon was arrested at the State Police barracks in Fonda. He was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and released on his own recognizance.<\/p>\n

He is due back in court March 31.<\/p>\n
