Latvian Defense<br \/>\nMinister Andris Spr\u016bds on Thursday attended the opening of the<br \/>\nexhibition \u201cSix Hundred Years of Spanish History Across Four<br \/>\nContinents in 20 Paintings by Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau,\u201d organized by<br \/>\nthe Embassy of Spain and the Latvian War Museum, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.trend.az\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Trend<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is part of a broader program of events marking<br \/>\nSpain\u2019s National Day celebrations in Latvia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, more than 600 Spanish soldiers are serving in Latvia as<br \/>\npart of NATO\u2019s multinational brigade in \u0100da\u017ei, representing the<br \/>\nsecond-largest allied contingent in our country. This is a symbol<br \/>\nof trust and solidarity, showing that Spain and Latvia are united<br \/>\nby a common goal\u2014to defend every nation and every person within the<br \/>\nAlliance. Our cooperation extends beyond the military sphere\u2014it<br \/>\nalso includes culture, science, education, and public understanding<br \/>\nof security,\u201d Minister Spr\u016bds said.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the National Day program, the Spanish Embassy hosted<br \/>\na roundtable discussion at the Latvian War Museum titled<br \/>\n\u201cHistorical Experience and Contemporary Challenges: Spain and<br \/>\nLatvia in the Context of European Security.\u201d The event brought<br \/>\ntogether historians and political scientists from both countries<br \/>\nand featured three thematic panels focusing on significant<br \/>\nhistorical moments and present-day challenges shared by Spain and<br \/>\nLatvia.<\/p>\n<p>Commemorations will continue on Saturday, October 11, with a<br \/>\npublic ceremony at Freedom Square and its surroundings in Riga. The<br \/>\nevent will be attended by Defense Minister Spr\u016bds, Spain\u2019s<br \/>\nAmbassador to Latvia Manuel Alama Orenes, and the commander of the<br \/>\nSpanish contingent in Latvia, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel D\u00edaz<br \/>\nSim\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>The program will include a military parade and an exhibition of<br \/>\nmilitary equipment, followed by a memorial ceremony honoring fallen<br \/>\nSpanish soldiers, with a wreath-laying and flower tribute at the<br \/>\nFreedom Monument.<\/p>\n<p>After the parade, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy<br \/>\ntraditional Spanish paella prepared by the Spanish Army field<br \/>\nkitchen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a great honor to celebrate our National Day at the<br \/>\nFreedom Monument, such an important symbol for Latvia.
