{"id":48097,"date":"2026-03-25T10:48:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T10:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/48097\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T10:48:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T10:48:12","slug":"elen-letort-transforms-1920s-amsterdam-cinema-into-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/48097\/","title":{"rendered":"El\u00e8n Letort transforms 1920s Amsterdam cinema into restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/stained-glass\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stained glass<\/a> arch and striped cocktail bar add colourful geometry to the Ceintuur Theatre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/restaurants\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">restaurant<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/amsterdam\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amsterdam<\/a>, designed by dutch interiors\u00a0firm Studio El\u00e8n Letort.<\/p>\n<p>Located in a former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/cinemas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cinema<\/a> originally built in 1921, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elenletort.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Studio El\u00e8n Letort<\/a> transformed the interior into a cafe and restaurant in Amsterdam&#8217;s De Pijp neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<p>Studio El\u00e8n Letort aimed to respect the original character of the building while introducing playful elements to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ceintuurtheater.nl\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ceintuur Theatre<\/a> restaurant.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2308878 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ceintuur-theatre-studio-elen-letort-restaurant-amsterdam_dezeen_2364_col_8-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Ceintuur Theatre restaurant by Studio El\u00e8n Letort\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Ceintuur Theatre is a restaurant located in a renovated 1920s cinema<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The goal was to honour the history of the building while introducing a more modern character,&#8221; studio founder El\u00e8n Letort told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We aimed to create something timeless, rooted in traditional craftsmanship, yet playful and expressive in its character.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Playfulness became a guiding principle throughout the design,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;As an all-day concept, the space also needed to feel easygoing and approachable, naturally fitting into the rhythm of the neighbourhood.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2308876 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ceintuur-theatre-studio-elen-letort-restaurant-amsterdam_dezeen_2364_col_6-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Restaurant in Amsterdam by Studio El\u00e8n Letort\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>A bar with striped walls and rounded corners is located on the mezzanine<\/p>\n<p>On the ground floor, a wooden bar with a marble worktop stands in front of a handmade stained glass arch, which features colours and shapes that draw from the building&#8217;s original stained glass windows.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The stained glass design is inspired by the original windows still present in the building,&#8221; said Letort.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wanted to create a dialogue with the Amsterdamse School style, often found in historic Amsterdam architecture, while making it more contemporary through bolder volumes and playful shapes such as the circular elements at the centre.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/06\/homer-rogue-taverna-sydney-ap-design-house\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/homer-rogue-taverna-ap-design-house_dezeen_2364_col_1-1-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p> AP Design House creates &#8220;relaxed, lived-in&#8221; taverna in Sydney\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the mezzanine above, a rounded cocktail bar made from wood composite was decorated with green striped walls, an Emperador marble top, and a mix of contemporary and vintage lights.<\/p>\n<p>Structural features and brick walls were left exposed in the double-height restaurant, creating an industrial appearance that Studio El\u00e8n Letort softened with full-length acoustic curtains on the upper floor.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2308872 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/ceintuur-theatre-studio-elen-letort-restaurant-amsterdam_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"Ceintuur Theatre restaurant by Studio El\u00e8n Letort\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Acoustic curtains were added along some of the walls<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From the outset, there were specific preservation requirements that shaped the design,&#8221;
