Sheriff\u2019s deputies arrived at the scene shortly after 8 p.m. and found the wounded juvenile, who was pronounced dead at the mobile home park, a news release said.<\/p>\n<p>After initial interviews with several juveniles who were at the home at the time of the shooting, another 15-year-old juvenile was detained on the preliminary charge of reckless homicide, the release said.<\/p>\n<p>During the investigation, authorities recovered a handgun that was determined to have been reported stolen.<\/p>\n<p>The case remains under active investigation, the sheriff\u2019s department said, adding that no further information was ready to be released.<\/p>\n<p>The Warsaw Police Department and the Kosciusko County coroner\u2019s office assisted the sheriff\u2019s department with its investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The identity of the youth who died had not been released as of Tuesday afternoon, nor had the name of the juvenile facing charges in the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, a county coroner releases the name of the deceased after an autopsy, along with indicating the cause and manner of death \u2013 including an official ruling as to whether the case is a homicide.<\/p>\n<p>The names of juveniles are typically shielded unless a judge agrees with a prosecutor\u2019s request to move a case into adult court, based on the severity of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff\u2019s department shared a statement that the Warsaw Community Schools released, lamenting the loss of a young life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a difficult time for our school community, and our thoughts are with the student\u2019s family and friends,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCounseling staff is on site, and we extend our thanks to Bowen Health for providing additional staff to support students and staff during this time,\u201d the statement said. \u201cAt this time, we are working with local authorities and ask that everyone respect the family\u2019s privacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gun-related deaths are less common in northeast Indiana outside Allen County, which had 35 homicide rulings last year.<\/p>\n<p>Of those deaths due to violence, three were attributed to stabbings.<\/p>\n<p>Numerous cases, however, involved youth violence, which prompted at least one public forum hosted by Fort Wayne\u2019s mayor and led to an initiative to provide funding to organizations with programs to deter criminal activity among juveniles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A 15-year-old died after suffering a gunshot wound and a peer of the same age faces a preliminary&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":48378,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[95],"tags":[27146,27144,27143,26728,27142,27140,182,26726,27145,181,20751,27141],"class_list":{"0":"post-48377","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-warsaw","8":"tag-bowen-health","9":"tag-gunshot-wound","10":"tag-juvenile","11":"tag-kosciusko-county","12":"tag-kosciusko-county-coroners-office","13":"tag-kosciusko-county-sheriffs-office","14":"tag-poland","15":"tag-shooting","16":"tag-stolen-handgun","17":"tag-warsaw","18":"tag-warsaw-community-schools","19":"tag-warsaw-police-department"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@dk\/116290824750921538","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/48377","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=48377"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/48377\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/48378"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=48377"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=48377"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=48377"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
