{"id":48736,"date":"2026-03-26T02:43:30","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T02:43:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/48736\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T02:43:30","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T02:43:30","slug":"hungarian-fm-accuses-brussels-of-election-interference-in-hungary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/48736\/","title":{"rendered":"Hungarian FM accuses Brussels of election interference in Hungary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>25 March 2026 17:03<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Hungary\u2019s Foreign Minister P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 has <a style=\"color: rgb(53, 152, 219);\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YNp6SlRWz10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">accused <\/a>Brussels of participating in foreign intelligence interference in the country\u2019s elections, following the European Commission\u2019s reaction to media reports about his contacts with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 said that a spokesperson for the European Commission had stated that the High Representative for Foreign Affairs would speak with him about his conversation with the Russian foreign minister during a break between EU Council meetings.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The minister stressed that he considers it natural to hold consultations with third countries, including Russia, when European Union decisions affect national interests. He added that similar contacts are maintained with the United States, T\u00fcrkiye, Serbia, China, and other countries. Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 emphasised that Hungary will not abandon the defence of its national interests despite external pressure.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to <a style=\"color: rgb(53, 152, 219);\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2026\/03\/23\/orban-opponent-calls-alleged-russian-backchannel-treason\/9187fd1e-26ca-11f1-a0f2-3ba4c9fe08ac_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Washington Post<\/a>, citing sources, Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 held regular phone calls with Lavrov during breaks in meetings of EU foreign ministers.
