Dutch media have reacted to Raheem Sterling\u2019s latest display for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. The former Liverpool winger joined Feyenoord in February on a short-term deal until the end of the season.<\/a><\/p>\n After a difficult 18 months \u2013 during which he was deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea, loaned to Arsenal, and frozen out upon his return \u2013 Sterling left Stamford Bridge by mutual consent last month. <\/a><\/p>\n He agreed a settlement over the final 18 months of his contract, allowing him to join Robin van Persie\u2019s side as a free agent. However, the 31-year-old has struggled to find his best form in the Netherlands, partly due to nine months away from competitive football.<\/p>\n That was evident in Sunday\u2019s home clash against Ajax, where he was substituted in the 55th minute with Feyenoord 1-0 down. The team later equalised to secure a draw, but Sterling\u2019s performance drew heavy criticism from the Dutch press.<\/p>\n DPG Media<\/a> wrote: \u201cIn modern football, no speed means no danger. The arrival of Sterling, announced with great fanfare gave the Legioen hope but the Englishman cannot make the difference for Feyenoord.\u201d<\/p>\n AD<\/a> said: \u201cThe tension was palpable and visible on the pitch as well, in the clumsy way Raheem Sterling kicked a ball over the goal.\u201d<\/p>\n Voetbal International<\/a> handed Sterling a lowly 5\/10 rating for his performance, while De Telegraaf<\/a> were highly critical of his display in De Klassieker. One article labelled it a \u201ctotal failure,\u201d claiming he contributed \u201cnothing\u201d offensively or defensively, allowing Ajax to control the game with ease.<\/p>\n The report mockingly added that \u201cit seemed like he was enjoying the sun more than being focused on the match\u201d and suggested that if Sterling cannot make an impact in high-stakes games like this, he would be \u201cbetter off playing for a veterans\u2019 team.\u201d Sterling has racked up five appearances and provided one assist for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.<\/p>\n
