{"id":50252,"date":"2026-03-27T20:20:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T20:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/50252\/"},"modified":"2026-03-27T20:20:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T20:20:09","slug":"turkey-blocks-x-account-of-afp-reporter-covering-kurdish-southeast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/50252\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey blocks X account of AFP reporter covering Kurdish southeast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Mahmut-Bozarslan.jpg\" data-caption=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"460\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- alt=\"\" title=\"Mahmut Bozarslan\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Mahmut-Bozarslan-696x460.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"460\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Mahmut-Bozarslan-696x460.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Mahmut Bozarslan\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turkish authorities have blocked access in Turkey to the X account of Agence France-Presse correspondent Mahmut Bozarslan, a journalist based in the predominantly Kurdish southeast, in the latest move raising concerns about censorship and press freedom, Agence France-Presse reported.<\/p>\n<p>The account of Bozarslan, who reports from Diyarbak\u0131r, the largest city in Turkey\u2019s Kurdish-majority southeast, was blocked on grounds of protecting national security and public order, according to EngelliWeb, a platform that monitors online censorship in Turkey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no idea of the reasons that led to this block,\u201d Bozarslan said.<\/p>\n<p>Bozarslan\u2019s recent reporting included coverage of Newroz celebrations on March 21, the annual festival marking the Kurdish new year, which has political significance for Turkey\u2019s Kurds.<\/p>\n<p>Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemned the move and described it as censorship.<\/p>\n<p>The block comes as Ankara has been engaged since October 2024 in talks aimed at ending its long conflict with the Kurdistan Workers\u2019 Party (PKK), an outlawed militant group that has waged an insurgency against the Turkish state for more than four decades.<\/p>\n<p>The peace effort gained momentum in 2025 when Abdullah \u00d6calan, the imprisoned founder of the PKK, called on the group to disband and urged supporters to pursue the Kurdish issue through democratic politics. The conflict has killed more than 50,000 people since the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>The Kurdish issue, a term prevalent in Turkey\u2019s public discourse, refers to the demand for equal rights by the country\u2019s Kurdish population and their struggle for recognition.<\/p>\n<p>The move also follows broader restrictions on social media in Turkey.
