If Lego<\/a> knows anything, it\u2019s how to excite nerds like us. This time, they\u2019ve taken the joy and charm of the book written by Andy Weir and film Project Hail Mary<\/a>, and translated it into an adorable brick replica of the Hail Mary and mini-figures of Ryland Grace and, of course, Rocky.<\/p>\n

\"Project<\/a><\/p>\n

The book was an instant bestseller, and the film is breaking records. The Lego set, which is designed for adult brick-heads, leans into all the best parts of the film. It features the ship aptly named the Hail Mary that, once built, sits on a dynamic stand which acts like the centrifugal generating mechanism<\/a> that powers the ship\u2019s gravity in space in the film. The mini-figs are positively adorable. You have Ryland Grace, our hero and the best middle school science teacher around. And Rocky, which, hilariously enough given his appearance, is very believable built from Lego bricks.<\/p>\n

Full of Details<\/p>\n

Probably my favorite part of the 830-piece set is that they have the wall that originally sat between Rocky and Grace when their ships are linked by the gangway. It makes for a sweet tableau between the two characters, and something that sets apart the moment from the overarching view of the set.<\/p>\n

Like all Lego sets<\/a>, this one has a ton of attention to detail. From the wrench carried by Grace, to the intricately made panels that stretch out on either side of the Hail Mary, everything is made with accuracy in mind, even if rendered in a playful way.<\/p>\n

The set is currently backordered, but given the popularity of the film, and Lego\u2019s commitment to available product, I have no doubt that they\u2019ll ramp up production on this one quickly, much like they did with the Barad-d\u00fbr<\/a> set, and their ever-popular F1 offerings.<\/a><\/p>\n

At 830 pieces, it\u2019s very much on the medium-to-small side of Lego\u2019s adult set offerings, but that also means it\u2019s not going to be something you need to plan your whole weekend, vacation, or calendar year around building. In just a few hours, you could build the entire Lego Project Hail Mary set and then sit back and admire your work. Personally, I\u2019m a big fan of the idea of having the Hail Mary sit beside your Millenium Falcon and your U.S.S. Enterprise\u2014a whole display of sci-fi nerdy spacecraft.<\/p>\n

No matter what you choose to do with your Hail Mary after you build it, one thing is for sure, you\u2019re going to want to expand your Lego collection all over again. Trust us, we know the feeling very well here at Popular Mechanics. You\u2019re in good geek company.<\/p>\n
