{"id":52391,"date":"2026-03-31T11:12:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T11:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/52391\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T11:12:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T11:12:10","slug":"export-cable-in-place-first-turbine-being-installed-at-orsteds-new-us-offshore-wind-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/52391\/","title":{"rendered":"Export cable in place, first turbine being installed at \u00d8rsted&#8217;s new US offshore wind farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Installation of the first of 84 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW wind turbines\u00a0is underway at the Sunrise Wind project site, approximately 30 miles (approximately 48 kilometers) east of Montauk, New York.<\/p>\n<p>The installation vessel Wind Scylla, owned by Cadeler, arrived at the site on March 25\/26, according to the vessel\u2019s AIS data available online. According to \u00d8rsted\u2019s mariners\u2019 briefing from March 30, Wind Scylla and supporting vessels are currently installing a wind turbine at location AS20, one of the wind turbine locations at Sunrise Wind.<\/p>\n<p>Jan De Nul\u2019s vessel Connector has completed the cable laying along the export cable route for Sunrise Wind and will now be conducting cable jointing, beginning with the nearshore joint. The company\u2019s trenching vessel Adh\u00e9mar de Saint-Venant will continue trenching and other works into May.<\/p>\n<p>HEA Leviathan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshorewind.biz\/2026\/02\/23\/new-owner-of-three-seajacks-jack-ups-nets-contract-for-polish-offshore-wind-farm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">owned by HEA Energy<\/a>, is stationed at the Sunrise Wind offshore converter station for commissioning. The project\u2019s offshore substation was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshorewind.biz\/2025\/09\/30\/substation-installed-at-orsteds-new-us-offshore-wind-farm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">installed last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sunrise Wind is the first offshore wind project in the U.S. to use\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/sunrise-wind-first-us-offshore-wind-project-to-use-hvdc-transmission-technology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) system<\/a>, which Siemens Energy and Aker Solutions are delivering under a contract signed with the developer in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The offshore wind farm will connect to the New York electricity grid at the Holbrook substation in Brookhaven, Suffolk County.
