Manchester United loanee Rasmus Hojlund will not be heading to the 2026 World Cup after Denmark fell short in their play-off final.<\/p>\n

Denmark suffered a 3-1 penalty shootout defeat to Czech Republic on Tuesday which means Rasmus Hojlund will not go to the World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Manchester United loanee, who is currently at Napoli, had his spot-kick saved by former Red Devils player Matej Kovar.<\/p>\n

Danish media criticised Hojlund\u2019s finishing<\/a> after he failed to find the back of the net for 120 minutes and then missed in the shootout.<\/p>\n

Before the match, Hojlund was calm about Denmark\u2019s play-off final<\/a>, but he did describe it as his \u201cbiggest match ever\u201d in his career.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media after the match, Rasmus Hojlund<\/a> defended his performance and argued it was actually one of his best outings on the international stage.<\/p>\n

As quoted by TribalFootball<\/a>, Hojlund said: \u201cI think I was playing one of my best country matches. I won almost all my duels, but unfortunately, I didn\u2019t get to score.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to assess where we stand. But I think we have delivered many good performances. However, we have stumbled right at the finish line a few times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just moments after missing from the spot, Hojlund decided to try and defend his display, but statistics show he was wrong about what he said.<\/p>\n

Hojlund claimed to have \u201cwon almost all my duels\u201d, but SofaScore<\/a> statistics reveal he actually only won nine out of 18, giving him a success rate of exactly 50%.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old also failed to complete any of his three attempted dribbles, and lost possession 14 times in his display.<\/p>\n

While Hojlund was a handful for the Czech defence, it seems his Denmark display was nowhere near as good as he thought after the full-time whistle blew.<\/p>\n

Hojlund failed to take accountability and his lack of self-awareness will encourage United chiefs that they have made the right decision to offload him from Old Trafford.<\/p>\n
