DFDS is \u201cworking on contingency arrangements to maintain services\u201d after one of its fast ferries hit the Elizabeth east berth\u00a0while arriving in St Helier Harbour on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n
The update comes after the Danish ferry operator confirmed that its Tarifa Jet vessel \u201cmade contact\u201d with the ferry berth and sustained damage to its stern.<\/p>\n
No passengers or crew were injured in the incident, which resulted in the cancellation of subsequent sailings to and from St Malo.<\/p>\n
In a further statement yesterday, DFDS announced that a number of changes had been made to its schedule over the coming days.<\/p>\n
Freight and passenger ship Stena Vinga\u00a0was today due to operate the St Malo route, departing St Helier at 6.30am with a return crossing from France at midday (local time).<\/p>\n
The change meant yesterday night\u2019s sailing to Portsmouth and return this morning were both cancelled.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe recognise that passengers will be concerned about their Easter travel plans,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are working on contingency arrangements to maintain services, including sourcing an additional relief vessel to support operations over the Easter period. <\/p>\n
\u201cA further update on the schedule for Easter weekend will be provided as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
And a Ports of Jersey spokesperson confirmed that \u201cinspections are ongoing\u201d following Sunday\u2019s incident, with specialist teams \u2013 including divers \u2013 examining the East berth linkspan and associated infrastructure.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe West berth remains fully operational,\u201d the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n
\u201cSubject to weather conditions, we expect both Arrow and Vinga to berth later this afternoon and evening.<\/p>\n
\u201cInvestigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n
