The discovery is connected to the 1801 Battle of Copenhagen, a key engagement during the War of the Second Coalition.<\/p>\n<p>The battle involved a British fleet, including twelve ships of the line supported by frigates and bomb vessels, which sailed to persuade Denmark to leave a naval alliance with Russia and other nations. Then-Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson led the assault against the anchored Danish fleet. During the stationary exchange of cannon fire, Nelson continued the engagement despite an order to withdraw. The Danish fleet was overcome, leading to a ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p>The Danish flagship caught fire during the combat and later exploded and sank, resulting in the loss of more than fifty crew members with nineteen others missing. The wreck remained on the harbor bottom for 225 years until surveys for a planned waterfront expansion, part of a new residential district called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indexbox.io\/store\/denmark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Lynetteholm<\/a>, revealed its location.<\/p>\n<p>An excavation leader stated that the find provides a new archaeological source for studying the battle. The timber dimensions align with historical drawings, and tree-ring dating corresponds to the vessel&#8217;s construction year.
