{"id":56431,"date":"2026-04-07T06:00:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T06:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/56431\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T06:00:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T06:00:03","slug":"us-president-blames-greenland-dispute-for-nato-rift-criticises-allies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/56431\/","title":{"rendered":"US president blames Greenland dispute for NATO rift, criticises allies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">U.S. President Donald Trump on April 6 suggested that tensions between Washington and NATO began with his proposal to take over Greenland, as he sharply criticised several American allies for what he described as a lack of support in the war with Iran.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Speaking at a White House press conference ahead of a planned visit by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump said disagreements over Greenland marked the start of a widening rift with the alliance, <a href=\"https:\/\/caliber.az\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Caliber.Az<\/a> reports per <a style=\"color: rgb(53, 152, 219);\" href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2026\/04\/06\/world\/live-news\/iran-war-us-trump-oil?post-id=cmnnjbczp000i3b6rzd0ap7ag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">foreign media<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIt all began with, if you want to know the truth, Greenland,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWe want Greenland. They don\u2019t want to give it to us. And I said, \u2018bye, bye.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Trump has previously floated the idea of the United States taking control of Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, a NATO member.
