{"id":56599,"date":"2026-04-07T11:15:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T11:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/56599\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T11:15:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T11:15:07","slug":"new-maxima-supermarket-to-be-built-in-tallinns-pirita-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/56599\/","title":{"rendered":"New Maxima supermarket to be built in Tallinn&#8217;s Pirita | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new commercial center will be built at Meriv\u00e4lja tee in Pirita, which will include a Maxima store, after Tallinn City Government adopted a detailed plan that has been disputed for several years.<\/p>\n<p>The plans for Meriv\u00e4lja tee 80 have been in dispute between Pirita District Administrative Council and Tallinn City Government since 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Local residents opposed the construction of the center from the start, arguing that it would bring construction noise, light pollution at night, noise from loading goods, a significant increase in traffic, and parking on internal neighborhood streets.<\/p>\n<p>The architectural competition was held in 2021 and was won by the design &#8220;Mere&#8221; by Moi O\u00dc, authored by architect Margus Paut.<\/p>\n<p>This was later disputed by Pirita council, who said the functions of the planned building do not correspond to the public interest in establishing a center building in the area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-photo-id=\"3293020\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/3293020h5cf4t24.png\"\/>The new Meriv\u00e4lja center in Pirita, where Maxima will also be located. Source: MOI O\u00dc\/Tallinna LV<\/p>\n<p>A public survey showed residents wanted to see a caf\u00e9, a gym, a playroom, and a restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>However, even in March 2025, the Pirita District Administrative Council did not agree with the proposed solution, and the Pirita District Government maintained the same position.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to the initial solution, the planning area has been reduced.<\/p>\n<p>The demolition of a terraced house located at Puki tee 31 has been abandoned and the commercial building will now include a neighborhood center.
