{"id":56812,"date":"2026-04-07T16:31:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T16:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/56812\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T16:31:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T16:31:09","slug":"turkey-blocks-access-to-social-media-accounts-of-pro-kurdish-outlets-journalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/56812\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey blocks access to social media accounts of pro-Kurdish outlets, journalists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Untitled-design-5-e1629216271242.jpg\" data-caption=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"557\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- alt=\"\" title=\"Social media censorship\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Untitled-design-5-696x557.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"557\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Untitled-design-5-696x557.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Social media censorship\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turkish authorities have blocked access in Turkey to the social media accounts of several pro-Kurdish news outlets and journalists, the Dicle F\u0131rat Journalists Association (DFG)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.diclefiratgazeteciler.org\/gunluk-ihlal-tablosu\/2026-04-03\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the accounts blocked were the X account of the Nupel Kurdi news platform and the Instagram and Bluesky accounts of the Mezopotamya News Agency (MA), both of which publish in Kurdish.<\/p>\n<p>The X accounts of journalists Abdurrahman G\u00f6k, Roza Arpa, Dilan Babat and Sema Bing\u00f6l were also blocked from access in Turkey, although authorities have yet to issue an official explanation.<\/p>\n<p>Arpa, Babat and G\u00f6k said they would continue reporting on X through newly opened accounts.<\/p>\n<p>The restrictions come as some of the affected journalists are already facing prosecution. Babat was previously <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/turkey-investigates-journalists-blocks-access-to-reports-on-suspicious-death-of-female-student\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">investigated<\/a> over an October 2025 report on the suspicious death of university student <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/delayed-forensic-report-in-students-death-fuels-claims-of-negligence\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rojin Kabai\u015f\u00a0<\/a>on accusations of \u201cpublicly disseminating misleading information,\u201d while G\u00f6k is <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/photojournalist-who-captured-police-killing-of-kurdish-student-faces-fourth-terrorism-indictment\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on trial<\/a> on terrorism-related charges based on a secret witness statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Turkey\u2019s growing use of digital censorship has been flagged by press freedom and rights groups as a major driver of the country\u2019s declining standing in global media freedom rankings.<\/p>\n<p>The US-based democracy watchdog Freedom House\u2019s \u201c2025 Freedom on the Net\u201d report\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.turkishminute.com\/2025\/11\/14\/turkey-ranks-among-worlds-worst-for-internet-freedom-freedom-house\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">placed<\/a>\u00a0Turkey among the five countries with the steepest long-term declines in internet freedom.
