<\/p>\nGreenland is to be presented with its own tartan as a cross-party group of MPs is set to visit Nuuk.<\/p>\n
The visit follows months of threats from President Donald Trump\u2019s administration on the country\u2019s status.<\/p>\n
As part of their trip, chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Greenland (APPG) SNP MP Brendan O\u2019Hara will present the Greenlandic Parliament and government with a Greenland tartan this week.<\/p>\n
The first Greenland tartan was created by the Great Scot Ltd from Keith in Moray.<\/p>\n
It is officially lodged and now recognised with Scottish Registry of Tartans.<\/p>\n
The tartan comprises the red and white of the Greenland flag as well as pink which is the colour of the country\u2019s national flower, the Dwarf Fireweed.<\/p>\n
Mr O\u2019Hara said: \u201cWhen I established this APPG in 2019, I could never have imagined that in just a few short years, Greenland would become the hottest topic in international affairs.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough the threat to Greenland from President Trump may have receded in recent weeks, I think it is hugely important that those who believe in sovereignty, international law and a people\u2019s right of self-determination, show their solidarity with the people of Greenland.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am particularly pleased that I will have the opportunity to present the first official Greenland Tartan to the parliament and government, I hope it will act as an ongoing symbol of solidarity, and reaffirm our resolve to stand with the people of Greenland in the months and years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last month Greenland\u2019s Business and Energy Minister Naaja Natahielsen visited Westminster.<\/p>\n
While in Nuuk the cross-party group will meet with parliamentarians, including the Speaker of the Inatsisartut, various government ministers, including Greenland\u2019s Foreign Minister, Vivian Motzfeldt, as well as members of the business community.<\/p>\n
