{"id":58300,"date":"2026-04-09T16:39:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T16:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/58300\/"},"modified":"2026-04-09T16:39:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T16:39:10","slug":"turkey-puts-11-on-trial-for-lgbt-obscenity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/58300\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey puts 11 on trial for LGBT \u2018obscenity\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Young-LGBTQ.jpeg\" data-caption=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"435\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- alt=\"\" title=\"Young LGBTQ+\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Young-LGBTQ-696x435.jpeg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"435\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Young-LGBTQ-696x435.jpeg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Young LGBTQ+\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Eleven leaders of a Turkish LGBT rights group went on trial Wednesday on charges of \u201cobscenity\u201d and \u201cviolating the protection of the family,\u201d Agence France-Presse reported.<\/p>\n<p>The defendants, leaders of the Gen\u00e7 LGBTI+ (Young LGBTI+) association, stand accused of violating an article of the Turkish Constitution on protecting family values as well as publishing images on social media showing same-sex couples kissing, deemed \u201cobscene\u201d by the authorities.<\/p>\n<p>They face up to three years in jail and having some of their civil rights suspended if found guilty by the court in the western city of \u0130zmir.<\/p>\n<p>Homosexuality is not illegal in Turkey, but the LGBT community is frequently targeted by President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan, who has blamed it for a declining birth rate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis trial arises from a policy of excluding LGBT+ people from the public sphere,\u201d said Kerem Dikmen, the association\u2019s lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an attack on freedom of expression and freedom of association,\u201d said Dikmen, himself on trial for being a member of the group\u2019s supervisory board.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not about obscenity. Activities that are perfectly legitimate, legal and in line with the constitution are being criminalized. It is a form of dehumanization,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>LGBT rights campaigners have appealed against another court ruling issued in December ordering the association\u2019s dissolution on the basis of the same charges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not give up defending human rights.
