{"id":5969,"date":"2026-02-09T05:26:19","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T05:26:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/5969\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T05:26:19","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T05:26:19","slug":"lithuanian-latter-day-saints-journey-to-helsinki-finland-temple-church-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/5969\/","title":{"rendered":"Lithuanian Latter-day Saints journey to Helsinki Finland Temple \u2013 Church News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In August, faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints traveled many miles from their homes in Lithuania to the country of Finland in northern Europe to connect with the blessings of the house of the Lord while serving and worshipping in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechurchnews.com\/almanac\/temples\/helsinki-finland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thechurchnews.com\/almanac\/temples\/helsinki-finland\">Helsinki Finland Temple<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">This was the first time some of the Lithuanian Latter-day Saints had been to the temple, while others experienced a long-awaited return. Around 100 members of the Church made the journey from Aug. 11-16.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">President Miguel M. Rissi, president of the Vilnius Lithuania District \u2014 whose five branches cover the whole country of Lithuania \u2014 said the trip was wonderful, joyful and filled with miracles and service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The joy began Monday, Aug. 11, during the 13-hour bus ride north from Vilnius, through the countries of Latvia and Estonia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cMembers were sharing food, thoughts of anticipation, games being played and just such a good feeling of a gathering of Saints united by faith and purpose,\u201d President Rissi wrote in an email to the Church News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">When they reached the coast of Estonia, the members and their bus boarded a ferry for a two-hour ride across the Gulf of Finland to Finland. Others received their own endowments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis was the first time that some members entered the temple, and their smile was from ear-to-ear,\u201d President Rissi said. \u201cIt was such a good spiritual experience to be around them as they appreciated the beauty and symbolism found all over the temple.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The experiences were quite tender, he said, and the Spirit and power they felt were very real and lasting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">President Rissi\u2019s wife, Sister Marina Moreira Rissi, also had a strong spiritual experience as she performed the work for her aunt, who died some years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThose present in the session have later told her that they too felt that the ordinances were accepted \u2014 that\u2019s how strong the Spirit manifested during the sessions,\u201d President Rissi said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Lithuanian Latter-day Saints prepare for an evening devotional and meeting inside a chapel during their trip to the Helsinki Finland Temple, Aug. 11-16, 2025.\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.33;background-color:#F6F6F6;cursor:pointer\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/7CY3FP23NRHGFGWUIUA4PQ6KS4.JPG\"  width=\"800\" height=\"600\"\/>Lithuanian Latter-day Saints prepare for an evening devotional and meeting during their trip to the Helsinki Finland Temple, Aug. 11-16, 2025. | Provided by Sweetwater Rescue <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">One evening during the week, the members met to share their testimonies and experiences worshipping in the temple and the gratitude they had for the opportunity they had to travel together, worship together and deepen their friendships.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI believe the Lord did unite our hearts and helped us see each other with greater love and through a clearer Christlike lens,\u201d President Rissi said.<\/p>\n<p>The Church is small but strong in Lithuania<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchofjesuschrist.org\/learn\/facts-statistics\/lithuania?lang=eng\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.churchofjesuschrist.org\/learn\/facts-statistics\/lithuania?lang=eng\">first Latter-day Saint missionaries<\/a> to preach in the modern territory of Lithuania did so in 1907 in Memel, Germany (now Klaip\u0117da, Lithuania). A branch was established in Klaip\u0117da in 1909, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchofjesuschrist.org\/study\/history\/global-histories\/lithuania\/lt-chronology?lang=eng\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">contact with the branch was lost during World War II<\/a>, and the country became part of the former Soviet Union.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In the late 1980s, a number of Lithuanians who had been baptized in other countries returned home, with full-time missionaries assigned to Lithuania in late 1992, after the country regained independence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On May 20, 1993, then-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechurchnews.com\/2018\/6\/14\/23213914\/inside-the-quorum-of-the-twelve-apostles-what-president-ballard-has-learned-in-over-40-years-of-serv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Elder M. While there are only five branches for now \u2014 which is a small percentage of the total Church membership \u2014 the members\u2019 love and desire to follow the Lord is just as strong, President Rissi said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cAs district president, I felt that this trip truly allowed us to draw near to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through the experiences we had in the temple and also by the way we saw others serving us,\u201d he said. \u201cThis trip will be the foundation of the future growth that will happen in the country.
