Mika Godts has received his first call-up to the Belgian national team, and the Ajax winger described the experience as highly educational.<\/p>\n
Godts made his competitive bow in friendlies against the United States and Mexico. \u201cIt was brilliant,\u201d he told the AD, reflecting on the international break. \u201cIt was a great trip. Being part of the squad and making your debut for your country is really special.\u201d<\/p>\n
Belgium boasts several top-class wide men, including J\u00e9r\u00e9my Doku (Manchester City), Leandro Trossard (Arsenal) and Malick Fofana (Olympique Lyon).<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are among the best players in the country, but that\u2019s exactly why I became a footballer: to compete with players like that,\u201d Godts explains. \u201cTraining at that level, you quickly feel everything is a bit faster. That makes me better.\u201d<\/p>\n
He even shared the pitch with Kevin De Bruyne. \u201cYou can see that Kevin still has that class at his age. It\u2019s rare. These are the players from whom I can still learn a lot, and I think that\u2019s brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ajax<\/p>\n
Godts is enjoying an impressive season: he has contributed to 25 Eredivisie goals (15 scored, 10 assisted), a tally that tops the league.<\/p>\n
A summer move is likely, but Godts is focused on Ajax for now. \u201cI\u2019ve said before that I\u2019d like to stay at Ajax. I\u2019ve always dreamed of winning a trophy with this club. It won\u2019t happen this season, but hopefully next.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the summer, I\u2019ll assess the plan\u2014both for the team and for me. Things may change; they may not.
