{"id":60915,"date":"2026-04-14T17:09:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T17:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/60915\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T17:09:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T17:09:08","slug":"this-is-about-our-future-our-security-says-pema-khandu-in-riga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/60915\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018This is about our future, our security,\u2019 says Pema Khandu in Riga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"entry-meta\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/75ba4483947c96839d1c0f89507c605b64d88c6eb914329cf58f8a96fbaea165.jpeg\"  class=\"avatar avatar-42 photo\" height=\"42\" width=\"42\" decoding=\"async\"\/> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syllad.com\/author\/syllad\/\" class=\"entry-author-link\" rel=\"author nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Syllad | The Rising Meghalaya<\/a>April 14, 2026<\/p>\n<p>In a major development push for Arunachal Pradesh\u2019s Siang district, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday rolled out projects worth Rs 196.44 crore at Riga village, signalling a renewed focus on infrastructure, connectivity and public services in the region.<\/p>\n<p>During his visit, Khandu laid foundation stones for a series of projects and inaugurated key facilities, calling the package a \u201ctransformational step\u201d for the district.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not just about projects. It is about improving daily life for our people \u2014 better roads, better schools, better services,\u201d Khandu said while addressing a public gathering.<\/p>\n<p>At the centre of his address was the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), which the Chief Minister described as critical not just for Arunachal Pradesh but for the country as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project is of national importance. It is about our security, our rivers and our future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Thanking residents of Riga and nearby villages, Khandu said nearly 70 per cent stakeholders have already backed the Preliminary Feasibility and Allied Reports (PFAR).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am grateful to the people who have come forward and supported this. I appeal to others also to understand its importance and join us,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that the project would help regulate river flow, prevent floods, ensure water availability and strengthen India\u2019s strategic preparedness, especially in light of developments upstream.<\/p>\n<p>Seeking to address concerns, Khandu clarified that the current stage does not mean final approval for construction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPFAR is only the beginning. No final decision will be taken without proper public hearings and consultations with all communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the proposed investment of around \u20b91.5 lakh crore under the project could open up large-scale opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will bring jobs, business opportunities, better infrastructure and benefits for landowners. It can change the economic landscape of the region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the mega project, the Chief Minister announced several key initiatives for Siang district, including improvement of Riga township roads, construction of a new Circuit House, an integrated water supply project for Boleng and a modern stadium.<\/p>\n<p>He also congratulated the State\u2019s youth for their achievements in sports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur young people are making us proud. We will continue to invest in sports infrastructure to support their talent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite inclement weather, Khandu thanked local residents and organisers for turning up in large numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI truly appreciate the effort everyone has put in despite the rain. I will come back after October, and we may even hold a Cabinet meeting here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Reiterating his vision for the future, the Chief Minister called for collective participation in development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want our youth and educated citizens to take the lead.
