{"id":6279,"date":"2026-02-09T10:41:12","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T10:41:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/6279\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T10:41:12","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T10:41:12","slug":"norway-ambassador-to-iraq-resigns-as-oslo-probes-epstein-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/6279\/","title":{"rendered":"Norway ambassador to Iraq resigns as Oslo probes Epstein links"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n      Mona Juul is the latest high-profile Norwegian to be linked to the Epstein files [Getty\/file photo]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newarab.com\/news\/ireland-norway-call-extension-syria-cross-border-aid\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Norway&#8217;s ambassador to Jordan and Iraq<\/a> has resigned after an investigation was launched into her ties to late US sex offender <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newarab.com\/news\/former-uk-minister-mandelson-quits-labour-over-epstein-ties\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>, the foreign ministry said Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Mona Juul, who played a key role in the secret Israeli-Palestinian negotiations which led to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newarab.com\/news\/oslo-accords-produced-todays-apartheid-palestinians-say\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oslo Accords<\/a> of the early 1990s, is among several high-profile Norwegian figures swept up in the latest Epstein file release.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a correct and necessary decision. Juul&#8217;s contact with the convicted abuser Epstein has shown a serious lapse in judgment,&#8221; Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The senior diplomat was temporarily suspended on Monday pending an investigation into her alleged links to Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>Epstein left $10 million in his will to Juul&#8217;s two children with her husband, fellow diplomat and Oslo talks broker Terje Rod-Larsen, according to Norwegian media.<\/p>\n<p>Eide said that the ministry would continue to hold talks with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newarab.com\/analysis\/interview-mona-juul-norwegian-ambassador-un\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Juul <\/a>throughout the review to determine the extent of their dealings.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is important to understand the scope of the contact she, as an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has had with Epstein,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the Jordan embassy would be led by the deputy ambassador until a new envoy is appointed.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Skjelbred, Juul&#8217;s lawyer, said in a statement that she resigned because &#8220;the situation she now finds herself in makes it impossible for her to discharge her duties in a responsible manner.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Skjelbred added that the situation had &#8220;been an enormous personal strain on her and her immediate family,&#8221; and that she would continue cooperating with the foreign ministry.<\/p>\n<p>Norway&#8217;s political and royal circles have been thrust into the eye of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newarab.com\/news\/trump-urges-release-any-epstein-files-naming-democrats\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Epstein storm<\/a>, including the CEO of the World Economic Forum Borge Brende, and former prime minister Thorbjorn Jagland, who is being investigated for &#8220;aggravated corruption&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Norway&#8217;s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has also come under scrutiny for her relationship with Epstein, which on Friday she said she &#8220;deeply regretted&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mona Juul is the latest high-profile Norwegian to be linked to the Epstein files [Getty\/file photo] Norway&#8217;s ambassador&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":6280,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[85],"tags":[1545,4210,157,156],"class_list":{"0":"post-6279","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-oslo","8":"tag-ambassador","9":"tag-epstein-files","10":"tag-norway","11":"tag-oslo"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6279","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6279"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6279\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/6280"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6279"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6279"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6279"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
