Queen Mary of Denmark has been seen in public for the first time since the death of her father.<\/p>\n
She made a public appearance at Fredensborg Palace alongside her husband, King Frederik, to celebrate the 86th birthday of Frederik\u2019s mother, Queen Margrethe on Thursday (Friday AEST).<\/p>\n
The former Danish monarch\u2019s younger sister, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, also accompanied them to celebrate.<\/p>\n
The four royals waved to onlookers while receiving cheers and applause. <\/p>\n
Queen Mary\u2019s public appearance comes just four days after the Danish Royal House announced that her father, Professor John Dalgleish Donaldson, 84, died in Hobart. <\/p>\n
Queen Mary, 54, wore a navy blue suit, which is typically worn by royals when they are in mourning but not at a funeral.<\/p>\n
Details of her father\u2019s funeral arrangements have not been revealed but the Danish Royal House confirmed it will be a private funeral, reports say. <\/p>\n
Danish media has also reported that Queen Mary\u2019s father, who was born in Scotland, may be buried much closer to Denmark.<\/p>\n
She saw her father for the last time in March when she took part in a five-day state visit to Australia alongside King Frederik. <\/p>\n
It is likely her father\u2019s funeral will be held after the King and Queen\u2019s twin children, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, 15, have their confirmation at Fredensborg Palace on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The pair have been taking part in confirmation classes together ahead of the official ceremony on the weekend. <\/p>\n
Queen Mary said in a rare public statement last week following her father\u2019s death: \u201cMy heart is heavy, and my thoughts are grey.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy beloved father has passed away.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I know that when the grief settles, the memories will brighten my day, and what will remain strongest is love and gratitude for everything he gave me and taught me\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Danish Royal House also said following his death: \u201cIt is with great sorrow that Her Majesty, the Queen announces that her father, Professor John Dalgleish Donaldson, has died in Hobart, Tasmania. He was 84 years\u201d.<\/p>\n
Queen Mary is the youngest of four children.<\/p>\n
