{"id":66027,"date":"2026-04-22T10:42:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T10:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/66027\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T10:42:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T10:42:09","slug":"kpj-hospitals-novo-nordisk-sign-mou-to-tackle-malaysias-obesity-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/66027\/","title":{"rendered":"KPJ Hospitals, Novo Nordisk sign MoU to tackle Malaysia\u2019s obesity crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tKPJ Hospitals, Novo Nordisk sign MoU to tackle Malaysia\u2019s obesity crisis<\/p>\n<p class=\"float-left\">April 22, 2026 | Wednesday | News<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMoU to support structured, hospital-based metabolic and weight management care<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/screenshot_22_4_2026_152626_www_minimeinsights_com-27536.jpeg\" class=\"img-fluid w-100 pl-5 pr-5\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">KPJ Healthcare Berhad\u00a0and\u00a0Novo Nordisk Malaysia\u00a0have formalised a strategic collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen structured,\u00a0multi-disciplinary\u00a0care in Malaysia, reflecting growing demand for a safer, more coordinated and medically supervised support for people living with obesity and related metabolic conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The collaboration will support the development of the\u00a0KPJ Metabolic &amp; Weight Management Programme, a hospital-based care model designed to provide patients with a structured, specialist-led, multidisciplinary care within a regulated healthcare setting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The collaboration comes at a time when Malaysia continues to face a significant obesity and metabolic health burden.\u00a0Health Ministry data from recent screenings\u00a0involving 1.2 million adults nationwide found that 1:2 Malaysians are living with obesity or overweight, highlighting the scale and urgency of the issue. The ministry has also said that\u00a015.6%\u00a0of Malaysian adults, about one in six, are living with diabetes, with many unaware of their condition. Obesity is also estimated to cost the country more than\u00a0RM64 billion\u00a0annually through healthcare expenditure, productivity losses and premature mortality<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Under the collaboration, both parties will work together to support a more comprehensive care pathway that combines specialist consultation, dietetic support, lifestyle guidance and clinically appropriate medical therapy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the first phase, the programme is expected to be introduced at 10 KPJ hospitals, namely Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, Damansara Specialist Hospital, Damansara 2 Specialist Hospital, Ipoh Specialist Hospital, Johor Specialist Hospital, KPJ Klang Specialist Hospital, KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital, KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital, Kuching Specialist Hospital and Tawakkal Specialist Hospital, with phased expansion planned for 12 months.
